Updos For Any Occasion

Tuesday, October 12th, 2010

From simple buns, intricate or loose curls, twists, tussles, waves, and even diamonds . . . There is so much that you can incorporate into an updo. Here are some ideas for some different styles that you can try with your hair:

Casual:
While you’re running last minute wedding planning errands, do your long luscious locks feel like they’re in the way sometimes? Or maybe you just don’t feel like spending hours on your hair that morning. Well, if you’re looking for an easy (Do-It-Yourself) hairdo, simply twist your hair into a bun for that “I didn’t just get out of bed” look.

Plus: If you leave your hair in a bun for a few hours, when you let your hair down, you’ll have a wavy, night-out worthy hairdo. Just tease the roots a bit for volume, spray in some hair spray for hold, and voilà!

Messy:
The messy updo is a little too complex to be considered an easy DIY (Do-It-Yourself) look, but it’s definitely all the rage. Female celebrities are all embracing this sexy & sassy updo for all sorts of red carpet events. This look would be great for a rehearsal ceremony and dinner! This laid-back and gorgeous updo is also perfect for outdoor and destination weddings, simply add a flower or another type of adornment and you’re all set!

Here’s an amazing tutorial to re-create this curly/messy/low side bun:

Tips: this look is all about texture, loose tendrils, waves, and delicate curls. A style that is great for layered hair!

Wedding:
When it comes to bridal updos, the sky is the limit! Simple buns, intricate buns, buns of all sizes, tightly or loosely curled tendrils, tiaras, diamond embellishments, pearl and crystal hair-bands . . . Oh the possibilities are endless. . . How is a girl to decide?!?

To get started, use different bridal resources such as bridal magazines and websites to compile a variety of updos and accessories that will embody your personality, individual style, and complement your dream wedding dress and veil (veil is optional of course). By making sure that your hairdo fits these 3 criteria, you will definitely feel confident, comfortable, and fabulous on your wedding day! Another great resource for ideas is to look to the stars! And we’re not talking about the ones in the sky, but your favorite female celebrities. Thousands of dollars is spent on hair and make-up services at every red carpet event, so there are sure to be some pretty fabulous and inspiring hair styles that are absolutely wedding potential. As many would say today: just “google it” for pictures of both fresh & fancy celebrity updos.

Advice: Take precautionary measures; by doing a trial run of your updo you can prevent a potential bridal hair disaster on your big day. (That’s the last thing you want before you walk down the aisle)

Ring Bling Part 2: Diamonds Are Forever

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

When choosing a ring, it is wise to consider what type of wedding band you will wear. Is it part of a matching set? Will you wear it alone? It is important to consider all these factors. Today some brides choose to wear only a wedding band. Most grooms all wear a wedding band. Whatever your choice make sure you’ve done your homework before making this big purchase. It is best to know when purchasing a ring the “Four C’s” Cut, Carat, Colour, and Clarity. In Ring Bling Part 1 Cut and Colour were defined. Here are the following two

Clarity:

  • Is the most impressive quality of all.
  • The more irregularities there are, the lower the value of the diamond.
  • A flawless diamond must show no surface blemishes or interior inclusions when examined at a 10-power magnification.

Carat:

  • The weight of a diamond is expressed in carats.
  • The weight of a diamond is the most important factor when determining its value - however, a smaller carat diamond with better colour, clarity or cut can easily cost more than a larger carat diamond.

Most importantly, your ring’s cut, setting and stone should all be a reflection of your own tastes, opinions and backgrounds.

Sharpen your sparkler know how before making the big decision!

Ring Bling Part 1: Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend

Friday, June 26th, 2009

Maximillion of Austria is said to have started a wonderful tradition over 500 years ago when he gave a diamond ring to Mary of Burgundy to seal their engagement. The Duke made a wise choice - the diamond - proven to be a fitting symbol for everlasting love because of its beauty, hardness and rarity, not to mention its enduring value.

Before purchasing a diamond every couple should understand the Four C’s (cut, colour, clarity and carat). The diamond industry uses the Four C’s to determine the value of a diamond.

The first two are:

Cut:
~ Determines the visual beauty of a diamond.
~ The cut transforms a rough, natural occurring crystal into the faceted, refined gemstone seen in the jewelry store.

Colour:
~ The common diamond is somewhat colourless, usually tinged yellow, brown or grey.
~ Very rare is the completely colourless diamond, thus making it very valuable.
~ Also rare and valuable are “fancy stones”, a diamond with a definite colour such as, red, yellow, green, blue or canary, rather than just a shade or tinge.

This ring is the symbol and token of that special ceremony that is a constant reminder of your love and vows. Traditionally, a man presents a ring when he proposes. Nothing makes a woman’s eyes sparkle more than a diamond engagement ring.
