Accessory Trends

Wednesday, December 28th, 2011

2012 is going to be a year of color and sparkle for wedding trends in both decor and fashion. Fuchsia, turquoise, grey, and coral are all in and promise to provide decorations that pop and accessories that call for attention.

Because of the popularity of vintage weddings, bridal accessory trends for 2012 will include big, sparkly bracelets, chandelier earrings, and delicate brooches. This year will be all about sparkle and shine with an antique touch. Pearls are also an excellent alternative for a bride who wants a softer look. Birdcage veils are going to be seen more often on brides as they offer a unique and elegant alternative to the chapel veil. Long trains will make way for shorter ones and boleros and short jackets will take the place of cloaks and long coats. The use of fascinators is going to increase, thanks in part to the Royal Wedding. Brides are encouraged to experiment with different colors and styles to match their theme. Simple silk flowers and crystal gems are going to be a popular hair accessory and will add individuality and grace to any bride.

2012 brides may want to look in to eco-friendly options for favours that incorporate both personalization and a unique alternative to previous trends. There has been an increase in brides adding a unique touch to table decor by using different sizes of vases and even tables at the receptions. Vase fillers have taken on a more modern feel as marbles, sea glass, and stones take center stage. Clear vases are popular and allow for creativity and encourage DIY brides to explore a number of filler options.

Lanterns lit with candles and LED bulbs are replacing stand alone candles, and LED tea lights are being embraced by brides who cannot have open flames at their receptions. Fresh cut flowers and vines are also being scattered over tablecloths to add natural decor to tables. Sashes, bows, and ribbons continue to be the most popular choices for chair decoration.

Bouquet accessory trends include using pearls, crystals, and ribbons around the bouquet to add glamour and a touch of added beauty to the flowers.

Regardless of the trends, remember that as a bride, it is your wedding. What you decide to use for accessories is up to you. Embrace your theme and colors, and make it an experience that you want to remember. You deserve to have it your way, so use your wedding as an opportunity to let your personality shine.

Turning Your Wedding Inside Out

Wednesday, October 20th, 2010

Bringing a new meaning to the phrase “outdoor wedding” this creative couple (featured on black and white {side by side}) held a breathtakingly vintage wedding, reminiscent of the 1920’s. The antique accents helped to recreate a feeling of the bygone era where times were simpler, but it also managed to convey the feeling of subdued decadence. This is a great example of being elegant, without crossing over into the realm of extravagance.

The script for the H was artfully used to recreate that old time feel, and let’s not ignore that picture of those quaint little windows standing at attention in the aisle. Last but not least, the bride looks stunning in a classic white lace dress and as noted by the blogger… “love that feather”. The single most defining feature of this wedding is however not any of the skilfully chosen design elements, but the radiant smile of this particular bride.

Malene Grotrian Does Marvels to Vintage Wedding Dresses

“Something Old, Something New,
Something Borrowed, Something Blue,
and a Silver Sixpence in Her Shoe.”

The quote above is familiar, and full of history. Britain’s silver sixpence was in circulation from 1551 to 1967. The tradition of incorporating these elements into the bride’s wedding dress and accessories likely became popular during the Victorian era (Approx. 1837-1900).

Inspired by this wedding ritual, Malene Grotrian Design helps brides to restore their mother’s or grandmothers wedding dress and turn it into a modern couture wedding for the new bride-to-be. Each vintage dress is altered to each bride’s exact desires to create the wedding dress they’ve always dreamed of. Malene has brought a fresh and new approach to a beautiful tradition.

Not only are Malene Grotrian’s brides walking towards their groom wearing the gown of their dreams; they also have something that is both old and new - a wedding dress that is truly special. The beauty of Malene’s art is that the special memories of the past and present will carry on for another lifetime through each wedding.
