Wedding Dress Spotlight . . . Isaac Mizrahi’s Peplum Gown

Monday, April 18th, 2011

As soon as my eyes set upon Isaac Mizrahi’s Ivory Silk Faile Peplum Gown, I simply just had to share it’s exquisiteness. As also mentioned on Savvy Scoop, the gown is now available online at The Aisle New York!

With it’s elegant contour, simplistic beauty, and Mizrahi’s brilliant use of the second skirt layer . . . I must say that it’s truly a marvelous creation. Thank you Isaac for such a perfect combination of both fashion and art.

Just remember these wise words and tips of advice when purchasing your wedding gown online:

1) Know What You Are Looking For.
Make sure to do your research and perhaps try on a few wedding gowns in stores first. By doing so, it will help to save you time, make the task of finding your dream dress online a lot easier, and it can also increase your confidence when making your final wedding gown selection.

2) Shop around before you buy.
Not many girls can easily go out and purchase their wedding gown more than a year in advance, let alone purchasing the dress online. So when making the critical online purchase, make sure to go through the checklist for online shopping:
1. Price
If it seems too good to be true, it might just be. Make sure to read the ratings of each online vendor and view some of their customer complaints/feedback. As well, make sure to comparison shop as it is very likely that more than a few online-stores will carry the exact same dress, but at different prices.
2. Quality & Ratings
Many dresses can look amazing online, but don’t let pictures fool you. Make sure to inquire about the condition and any flaws on the dress (particularly important when purchasing used wedding dresses). This is essential to clarify with the vendor as time is of the essence when purchasing online. Sending your dress back for an exchange or return, etc. can really set you back on the wedding gown purchase and tailoring/fitting schedule.
3. Return Policy
Make sure that the vendor you are purchasing your wedding dress from has a good return/exchange policy that you are comfortable with, because that could be it after pushing the “Buy” button . . . it could be no turning back from there. There is usually a page dedicated to a company’s return/shipping policies. So make sure to read the terms carefully and to also look at the vendor’s Frequently Asked Questions.
4. Secure Method of Payment
Fraud and not being sent getting the dress that you purchased online is one of the last things you want to think about when planning your wedding. So make sure that the vendor is trustworthy (check their reviews) and that they are using a secure form of payment (i.e. PayPal, Google Checkout, etc.).

3) Purchase Early.
When purchasing your wedding gown online, you always want to get your dress as soon as possible. Make sure to take into account shipping time, any possible shipping delays, and most importantly providing your tailor sufficient time to perfectly tailor your dress for your body.

Badgley Mischka 2011 Preview

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

Badgley Mischka’s 2011 bridal collection was shown in New York recently. Badgley Mischka’s couture gowns are globally sought after, and their designs influence many other designers. The styles that BM embrace are sure to be seen widely in gowns this year.

Floral detailing and petal shapes were evident through many of the gowns. Oversized three dimensional blossoms, floral beading on torsos, and skirts with petal like layers were shown.

Mark & James (Badgley Mischka’s consumer line) 2011 collection was also shown. These gowns were less elaborate - but no less elegant. One strapless gown with minimal accenting stood out in particular, going to show how impressive a traditional, strong, shape can be.  Other Mark & James gowns had asymmetrical ruffles, crystal beaded belts, and once again - floral detailing.

Light pink dresses and white dresses with pink accents are on the trend horizon for 2011.

They’re great because they allow a bride to choose a classic look without giving up fun, individual expression. Plus, a pink dress takes the ‘Fairy Tale’ wedding to the next level. Any wedding dress can make a girl feel like a princess, but a pink one is truly for a girl who’s looking for ‘happily ever after.’

Dollars for your Dress

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

Your wedding gown is one of the largest purchases you’ll make for your wedding day. So how do get the wedding dress of your dreams with paying a huge sum of money? Check out our tips on how to save on the dress without losing the style.

Choosing a classic gown without a lot of embellishment can dramatically lower the price - sometimes up to 25%! You can also look at only having some of the trimmings i.e.: all the gorgeous beading and lace on the bodice but not on the train or the sleeves.

Watch your alterations. Making special changes such as altering the neckline or putting in ties versus the zipper or buttons can cost more than $300 per adjustment.

While there are a lot of wedding purchases you can and will want to make online, your wedding gown shouldn’t be one of them. The Internet is a great resource to find ideas for your perfect dress, but you’re much better off to print off those pictures and take them to a bridal shop where you can try your options on. How many times have you looked at something on the hanger and thought it was gorgeous, only to put it on and realize it is not flattering to you at all, or vice versa? Your wedding gown is not something you want to take a chance with.

By choosing a simple silhouette you can keep the budget for your dress down. The more fabric your dress contains, the more it costs. A ball gown with huge amounts of organza can cost up to twice as much as a sheath made of the same fabric.

Look for seasonal and sample sales. Winter and summer are two of the best times of year for wedding gown shopping. Shops and buyers are attempting to get rid of inventory, giving you savings of up to 80%! Keep a few things in mind however: these gowns are usually sold ‘as-is’, so factor in dry-cleaning and alterations as the samples are usually used as try-on stock. PS: If you are a size 8 in a wedding gown - this is the perfect opportunity for you as most samples and try-on stock are ordered in a size 8.
